This was a cursory overview (at best) - for a more detailed discussion The Language of New Media by Lev Manovich (2001) is a good start (Manovich cites Man With A Movie Camera (Dziga Vertov 1929) as seminal in the history of cinema). Unlike the projects screened last week, Gondry's projects are not 'branded' vis a vis a design aesthetic but via an obsession in time and space.
